With emerging technologies looking to be the key to Britain’s future as an engineering nation, innovative staff at West College Scotland (WCS) decided to exploit this extraordinary opportunity, working with businesses to develop their staff in order to help them break into new markets. Here’s how WCS helped one company do just that and scooped a prestigious award in the process.

Winner - Employer Engagement

From an initial enquiry from Scottish manufacturer, Thermaflow Ltd, for traditional plumbing and heating training, engineering staff at WCS identified, that with specific renewable energy training the company could further enhance their business with expansion into the emerging technology sector.

Business Development Executive, Tami Mawhinney said, “This provided the College with the perfect opportunity to work alongside Thermaflow to devise a specific training package that would provide staff with the skills required to break into the emerging technologies market.”

George Curtis, Managing Director of Thermaflow commented, “Our relationship with WCS has been hugely beneficial for our business. Our initial approach was for basic staff training, however after discussions with the College we developed a package that supported staff training and product development that allowed us to expand into important new markets and increase our customer base.”

Consolidating the success of this partnership, West College Scotland was awarded the Employer Engagement Award at this year’s College Development Network Annual Awards. This award recognises the creative approaches that a college has taken to enhance employer engagement activity.

The College currently has a number of fully funded renewable energy training programmes to help businesses make the transition into the renewable energy sector.  Speak to our award winning team now to see how we can help you make that leap. Email: corporate@wcs.ac.uk
